A QUESTION WORTH ASKING
The "F" in "FIA" stands for "fixed" as in a fixed 0% floor that protects your principal from index declines or recessions. It is the way a FIA protects your principal from the market downside.
Ask about surrender periods, withdrawal limits and the insurer backing the contract.
An FIA is an insurance contract, not a direct investment in an index. Features and suitability vary. The book helps you understand the questions; a personal conversation helps you explore the answers.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
Anyone who wants a clearer understanding of fixed index annuities—whether you’re approaching retirement, already retired, or simply exploring your options. You don’t need a financial background to begin.
No. An FIA is an insurance contract. Interest may be linked to an index, but you do not invest directly in that index. Contract terms—including caps, participation rates and spreads—determine interest credits.
Yes, you can, and ultimately you may withdraw all your money or move all your money penalty-free if designed that way. In the early years, during a surrender charge period, you are usually allowed up to 10% withdrawals penalty-free. Access depends on the FIA contract type and design.
